In addition to the content standards under our Terms of Use policy, this page sets out specific standards for persons who comment on articles published on our website and all of its social media platforms.
The Concho Observer is a community publication. It is read by persons of all ages, beliefs, and points of view.
We encourage and welcome vigorous discussion and debate by commenting or submitting emails to the editor on the articles published here.
We also take our publishing and editorial responsibilities seriously. Our writers strive to make sure our stories are professional, factual and accurate. We also expect the same from commenters on our e-zine.
Commenting is a Privilege
Posting a comment on The Concho Observer is not a matter of right. It is a reader’s privilege subject to editorial discretion. All comments are curated by the editorial staff and are subject to rejection without notice to the commenter.
Comments should be related to the topic of the article commented on and add constructively to the discussion. Disagreements and criticisms should be based on evidence, be factual, avoid hyperbole and based on reason. Comments may be edited for clarity, conciseness, grammar and spelling before publication.
Rejection and Removal
Comments or emails to the editor may be rejected or removed for the following non-exclusive reason:
- Being off topic.
- Being excessively long, rambling, or incoherent.
- Use of profanity, insults, or ad hominem attacks.
- Any form of harassment.
- Psychological or emotional abuse.
- Bullying.
- Threats of physical abuse or violence.
- Advocating rebellion or violent overthrow of the government or the Constitution.
The editorial staff has the final say over approval and publication of all comments or emails to the editor submitted.
Journalists and authors have no involvement in the approval or rejection of comments. Any questions about these comment standards should be emailed to editor@conchoobserver.com.
