STEAM Central
The Tom Green County Library System has long been known to offer a variety of services and activities for residents of all ages, including story time for the children, therapy dog visits for those who need a little extra comfort, and computer classes.
Since 2017, they have also offered STEAM Central – a free community makerspace.

Located in the basement of the Stephens Central Library in downtown San Angelo, STEAM Central offers free access to more than 15 different types of equipment and software for creation and problem solving of all kinds. Access to different types of equipment at no cost makes a difference for creatives, especially in rural areas such as San Angelo.

“We are kind of in the middle of nowhere,” said Wanda Green, Assistant Director of the Tom Green County Library System. “Being able to provide our community with these tools that are hard to find out here is empowering to people.”
All of the equipment, supplies, and kits provided through STEAM Central and funded by a grant through the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
