TRICK-OR-TREAT
San Angelo neighborhoods are glowing with creativity this Halloween as residents transform their yards into Halloween spectacles for trick-or-treaters. From handmade decorations to massive inflatables, the city’s Halloween spirit is on full display.
The Concho Observer team went out this week to find the most festively decorated homes across San Angelo, capturing some of the city’s spookiest and most creative Halloween displays.

One longtime decorator has been transforming her home for 10 years, dedicating her efforts to delight the neighborhood kids each October.

Another resident, who has been decorating since 2004 after moving to San Angelo, focuses on creating a magical experience for his four grandkids.

At the intersection of Southwest Boulevard and Southland Boulevard, Mark Mathews’ iconic home is a must-see. Known for its year-round holiday displays, his yard features large blow-up decorations for every occasion. Mathews has been decorating for 32 years, and at one point welcomed a record 3,000 trick-or-treaters. This Halloween, he expects more than 1,000 visitors to enjoy his setup.

Another standout display, also located off Southwest Boulevard, recorded 840 trick-or-treaters last year. The decorator and his wife, who used to live in military housing where decorating was prohibited, decided to go all out once they moved.

Many of the decorations are handmade from clay by his wife, and the yard is carefully arranged like a maze, guiding visitors through a playful and immersive Halloween experience.
