OBITUARY

“Jack” Charles Jackson Plott III, of San Angelo, passed away on August 21, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on August 3, 1947, in Opelika, AL, to parents Charles Jackson Plott II and Hattie Magdaline Plott.

He graduated from Opelika High School and Auburn University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1970. He later earned his teaching certificate and master’s degree in education from Angelo State University.

After 6 years of active-duty service in the U.S. Army, He began his lifelong career teaching physical education, education, kinesiology, and swimming. After teaching at Austin Elementary and San Jacinto Elementary for many years, he accepted a position with the Department of Defense Schools and went on to teach for 14 years in Germany and two years in Japan. In 2009 he returned to the Kinesiology Department at Angelo State where he continued to teach for 15 years through May of 2025.

His popularity with students was reflected in the Rate My Professor program where his rating was 100% positive. One Student wrote: “Professor Plott continues to be my favorite professor at Angelo State. He cares for his students and is always available during office hours. His lectures are always engaging, and he incorporates activities to keep the class so engaging. All he asks is that your come to class and participate.” Another said: “He is a very caring professor and cares for students’ health and encourages them to become active. He has you work out after tests to help release the stress.” And Another: “Mr. Plott is the kindest guy on campus. He truly cares for each student and wants to ensure that they are educated properly and have fun while attending.”

In his personal life, Jack found joy working in his homes’ Flower beds, regularly exercising at Shannon Health Club, working at fields of Faith, and volunteering and attending at Glen Meadows Baptist Church in San Angelo, TX.

Jack was a people person. He had a warm and welcoming smile for everyone he met. It transferred into his teaching career, a profession he dearly loved. He was always finding creative ways to engage his students.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jill Plott, his children Kari Plott and Chase (Amanda) Plott, and one granddaughter, Lily Plott. He also leaves behind his brothers Bill (Nancy) Plott and Jerry Plott, two nieces Mary Plott Leach and Maggie Plott Davenport, Brother-in-laws Ira O’Neal Westbrook and Jeff Reneau, Sister-in-law Judith Reneau Westbrook, nephews Ira “Ty” Westbrook and Charles Naivar, and nieces Lori Westbrook Lasly and Lacy Westbrook Groves.

A memorial service to honor Jack’s life will be held at Glen Meadows Baptist Church on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 11AM. Friends and colleagues are invited to attend and share stories that reflect the life and legacy of a man who always gave more than he asked in return.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made to Glen Meadows Baptist Church Fund.
