A voicemail threat received by Central High School staff resulted in an organized evacuation of student and faculty Wednesday morning, according to an internal bulletin distributed by district officials.
The bulletin stated that while Central High School was not specifically mentioned, an evacuation was initiated out of an abundance of caution, as the incident was investigated by San Angelo Police Department.
According to the statement, investigators determined the threat was not credible, and students were returned to class shortly afterward.
It is a felony to call in a threat to a school in Texas. Under Texas Penal Code Section 42.06, making a false report (such as a bomb threat) to a school is a state jail felony, punishable by up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine.
