RODEO NEWS

One of San Angelo’s most anticipated traditions, the annual Roping Fiesta, is getting bigger and better in 2025.

As rodeo fans from across Texas and beyond prepare to gather in San Angelo Oct. 23–26, organizers have announced significant updates to the venue that promise to improve the experience for both spectators and participants.

The Spur Arena, home to the Roping Fiesta, is currently undergoing a major renovation ahead of the event.

For years, one of the most common complaints from attendees was the challenge of sitting in the stands during unpredictable West Texas weather. This year, those concerns are finally being addressed.

The remodeling project includes brand-new covered bleachers, offering shade and protection from the elements.

Seating capacity will increase, and additional ADA-compliant accommodations will ensure greater accessibility for all visitors.

While the upgrades are timed with the Fiesta in mind, the improvements are designed to serve the community year-round, opening the door for outdoor concerts, Angelo State University Rodeo Team events, and other large gatherings.

Crews still have plenty to finish before October, but organizers remain hopeful construction will be complete in time to welcome thousands of rodeo fans.

This year’s Roping Fiesta will once again deliver the fast-paced, high-energy competitions that make it one of the standout events on the rodeo calendar. Spectators can look forward to:

  • Calf Roping
  • Team Roping
  • Steer Wrestling
  • Steer Roping
  • Double Mugging

And for 2025, the Fiesta is expanding its lineup with Ladies Breakaway Roping—one of the fastest-growing events in rodeo.

Thanks to the support of Lip Chip, LLC, competitors will vie for $10,000 in prize money during the event, set for 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, inside the First Community Federal Credit Union Spur Arena.

Open to women of all ages, this new addition is expected to draw major attention and highlight the skill, speed, and grit of female ropers.

The Fiesta is more than just rodeo—it’s a community celebration. Attendees can browse a variety of vendors, enjoy local food, and experience live entertainment suitable for all ages. With its combination of tradition and fresh additions, this year’s Fiesta promises to be one of the most memorable yet.

The Roping Fiesta has always been a cornerstone of San Angelo’s cultural identity, and with these improvements, its future looks even brighter. Whether you’re a lifelong fan of rodeo or experiencing the event for the first time, October’s Fiesta is set to showcase the very best of West Texas tradition, competition, and community spirit.
