The Housing Authority of San Angelo is hosting a Car Show and Expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at San Angelo Stadium, 1919 Knickerbocker Rd.

The event will raise funds to aid the agency’s Housing Solutions Department, which provides Rapid Rehousing services to veterans and other community members experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity.

What is Rapid Rehousing and why does it matter?

Rapid Rehousing is an important factor in homeless solutions across the Concho Valley and beyond. Stemming from the Housing First philosophy – a proven, evidence-based approach used throughout the U.S. Housing First asserts the idea that everyone deserves a safe place to live without barriers.

Housing is addressed before other needs in this model, because the evidence shows that true stability starts when a person has a roof over their head. Once housed, people are far better equipped to get their other needs met and eventually become self-sufficient.

Rapid Rehousing moves quickly to connect our neighbors to permanent housing, covering short-term rental assistance and other costs associated with moving, and – depending on the program – some case management to support this transition. It’s not the whole solution, just the first step to helping the individual and the system as a whole.

In San Angelo, where rising costs, employment barriers, and a shortage of affordable housing have left hundreds unhoused and many more at-risk of homelessness, Rapid Rehousing is crucial. Housing Authority of San Angelo is here, ready to serve, and doing amazing work right in our backyard, and this event is a chance to support their mission.

Registration for the Car Show and Expo begins at 8 a.m., and the entry fee is $30.

Categories will include Best of Show, Best Classic, Best Modern, and Best Unique for cars and motorcycles. Categories are subject to change based on the number of participants.

Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the show in support of housing solutions here in San Angelo.
