The Angelo State University Jazz Ensemble will present its final concert of the fall season on Wednesday, Dec. 3, in ASU’s Elta Joyce Murphey Auditorium located inside the Mayer Administration Building at 2601 W. Ave. N.

Titled “Video Game Music,” the concert will begin at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. It will feature a one-of-a-kind experience as the Jazz Ensemble brings together the worlds of gaming and jazz for an electrifying performance.

(Music editors note: Many Japanese video games feature jazz and swing inspired compositions that are very popular among Jazz circles in New York and Europe)

From nostalgic classics to modern favorites, the audience will hear familiar themes transformed into bold new arrangements that highlight the artistry of both jazz and gaming soundtracks.

Under the direction of Dr. Trent Shuey, ASU assistant director of bands, the Jazz Ensemble will perform:

  • “Captain Arcade’s Video Game Parade” by Don Sebesky – Pinball machine
  • “Five Nights at Freddy’s” by Charlie Rosen
  • “Ground Theme” by Koji Kondo – Super Mario Bros.
  • “Megalovania” by Toby Fox – Undertale
  • “Paqman” by Hilario Duran – Pacman
  • “Still Alive” by Charlie Rosen – Portal 1
  • “Yoshi Star Galaxy Theme” by Koji Kondo – Super Mario Galaxy 2
  • “Jingle Jangle Jingle” by Kay Kyser – Fallout: New Vegas
  • “The Credits Roll” by Mahito Yokota – Super Mario 3D World

Whether you are a lifelong gamer, a jazz enthusiast, or just looking for an unforgettable night of music, this concert promises excitement, surprises and a celebration of the cultural impact of video game music.
