Local government and law enforcement join the Children’s Advocacy Center in its ongoing mission to prevent child abuse in Tom Green County this month, and educate the public about this important subject.
According to Texas law, anyone who has a reasonable belief that a child is being abused or neglected must report it immediately to local law enforcement or an appropriate state agency.
The Children’s Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas Inc. works to make sure every local child has a safe and nurturing home.
According to experts, child abuse is a devastating problem that impacts children from all walks of life, and is completely preventable.
Beginning with a proclamation from the Commissioner’s Court on Tuesday, Child Abuse Prevention Month kicked-off with the annual Pinwheel Ceremony Wednesday at the CAC headquarters on South Bryant Boulevard.
Several other events are planned, and supporters are encouraged to wear blue on Fridays during the month.
A training class to teach about recognition, reporting and prevention of child abuse is slated from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 29. Registration is required, but the training is free and dinner will be provided.
