Our Journalists

Chrysanthemum Crenshaw Cohen

Chrysanthemum is guided by her lived experiences of survivorship. She works to help others and inspire change as a journalist, public speaker, and poet. Her work has been featured in multiple literary magazines, and her creative life also includes floral art blended with environmental advocacy. In the community, she volunteers, supports survivors of sexual violence, serves on local boards, and acts as a bridge between animal welfare and human social services. On the quiet days, you might find her singing karaoke or binge-watching Doctor Who with her husband and two dogs. 

Morgan Dreyer

Morgan is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science with a minor in Business at Angelo State University. Agriculture has always been an integral part of her life, and she is passionate about spreading awareness of its importance. She also works as the Events Coordinator for the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. There she engages with the community and contributes to an event that showcase the value of agriculture. Helping others is my top priority, and I love sharing my passion for the industry with those around her.

Joshua Hockett

Josh has lived in San Angelo since Oct 2020 when he moved to work as a government contractor at Goodfellow AFB as a strength and conditioning specialist. He has been a freelance writer since 2012 writing for fitness and nutrition publications as well as food, wine, and travel publications print and digital alike, and serves as host of the Concho Valley Eats & Drinks Facebook group. Josh is a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW), and a Texas Wine Ambassador. Josh’s focus here will center around Concho Valley food, wine, and craft beer and the people behind those operations. Josh lives in San Angelo with his wife Stacy and 10-year-old son Owen and their 2 dogs.

Jon Mark Hogg

Jon Mark graduated from Baylor University and St. Mary’s School of Law. He married a local girl, Claire Hirschfelt, and they moved to San Angelo in 1992. Jon Mark served on the San Angelo City Council (2006-2010) and also served a brief stint as the City’s interim Mayor. He has served on many civic and community boards. A lawyer by training, but a writer by nature, he is also a rural and local advocate. Jon Mark is the Founder, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of The Concho Observer.

Matthew McDaniel

Matthew was born in San Angelo, and has lived in the area most of his life. In addition to working in his family’s oil-field services business, he is a veteran of the Midland Reporter-Telegram and the Standard-Times, and has worked variously as a copy editor, news graphics artist, section editor, weekend night editor, and general-assignments reporter. Matthew is the News Editor of the Concho Observer.

Will McDaniel

Will is a native of Mertzon, TX. He reports and photographs for several running series on the Observer, including Water Monitor, the San Angelo Scene, and Texas, Our Texas. Focused on local arts, politics, and environmental coverage. Please forward any and all tips to wmcdaniel@conchoobserver.com.

DaLeesa Quain

DaLeesa is a journalist with a background in pre-nursing from Angelo State University, bringing a diverse and grounded perspective to her storytelling. Passionate about sustainable living, she enjoys gardening, raising farm animals, and crafting meals from scratch through her love of baking and cooking. Inspired early on by a fourth-grade teacher who recognized and inspired her talent for writing, DaLeesa has nurtured a lifelong passion for storytelling that continues to drive her work in journalism.
