Aiming to lend a hand in increasingly uncertain times, a downtown eatery is offering pancakes to anyone in need of a meal beginning Saturday.
The owners say they will keep it up “Until We Can No Longer Flip,” according to a recent Facebook post.
As an act of solidarity, Urban Salt Kitchen & Bar said San Angelo residents facing food insecurity are welcome to come by 23 W. Beauregard Ave. and get some pancakes starting at 10 a.m. Nov. 1.
According to local government data, the delay in SNAP benefits will affect more than 12,000 Tom Green County residents.

Who’s Behind Urban Salt?
The restaurant, co-owned by Michelle Chapa and Ronnie Cajas II, is located in the heart of downtown San Angelo. Known for its upscale comfort food and refreshing drink menu, the establishment offers a casual dining experience that feels trendy yet welcoming.
Other Community Support
Urban Salt isn’t the only place stepping up to fight hunger in our community. Across San Angelo, agencies and businesses are working hard to support those in need.
H-E-B recently pledged $5 million to support Texas food banks, including $1 million for Meals on Wheels Texas.
The Concho Valley Regional Food Bank is preparing emergency meal boxes and continuing to supply local pantries like Rust Street Ministries and Project Dignidad.
Highlighting Hunger
These collaborative efforts come as we approach National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week – held the week before Thanksgiving to highlight the need for policies that protect the most vulnerable in our community.
While major contributors pave the way for lasting change in the face of food insecurity, it’s the small businesses – the backbone of our local economy – that remind us we’re in this together, and that no neighbor deserves to go hungry.
