In Case You Missed It
Food lovers converged on the Spur Arena Tuesday evening for the 50th annual “Taste of San Angelo” event hosted by the San Angelo Restaurant Association.
Lines wrapped around the corner as hungry patrons waited to try something new.
The Concho Observer’s resident foodie, Joshua Hockett, gave us a preview of what makes this event so special, and he gave me a rundown on the best way to enjoy it: take a tour all the way around and scope out what looks good to you, and then come back with your tray.
Because this was my first time at the event, I decided I would try and get a read on the crowd.
The atmosphere was festive, and just about every notable face in town was there.
Local bands were rocking along, and everyone slowly scooted their way along the packed-down track of the arena, writing their own mini-reviews of what the restaurants had to offer.

With all these options, I caught a bad case of Analysis Paralysis.
So, after asking 12 different guests about their favorite bites of the night, I loaded up with their suggestions and did the incredibly hard work of eating schnitzel in the parking lot while scribbling notes.

The Tasty Kraut Food Truck, Schnitzel with Mushrooms and Red Cabbage.
People were raving about The Tasty Kraut, and frankly I felt like I was doing my German heritage dirty having never once had a schnitzel, and this was a perfect bite sized introduction. The breading was super crispy, and I have a weakness for anything with mushrooms. Combined with the red cabbage, I would defiantly recommend this dish to anyone trying out the Tasty Kraut for the first time.
Plateau Brewing Co., 214 N. Chadbourne, In House IPAs
Aaron from Plateau Brewing Co. was serving up a nice India Pale Ale. Really citrusy, which I loved, and not too overbearing with the alcohol content, something that makes a lot of IPAs a bit too much in my opinion. This was a good blend of both worlds.
South Concho Food Co., 2833 Southwest Blvd., Street Corn with Ranch and Bacon
I love Elote, and South Concho Food Company served up amazing street corn, with a little touch of ranch and bacon. I think I’ll have to go back and get about a gallon of this stuff.
