OBITUARY
Theresa Claire Lewis, was called to her heavenly home on January 19, 2026. She was born to Bill and Mary Evelyn Herman on October 2, 1954, in San Angelo.
Theresa, affectionately known to many as Claire, led a life that exemplified the Christian virtues of compassion, service, and unwavering faith.
She was a graduate of Lake View High School, and her pursuit of knowledge led her to Angelo State University where she enrolled in the nursing program. Although her journey in nursing was paused while she worked at Skaggs-Albertsons, as Receiving Clerk, she later returned to complete her degree.
Theresa worked in many fields of nursing: Dialysis, Wound Care, Director of Nurses (Robert Lee Care Center) Hospice and D&S Community Services until she retired in November of 2024. While she learned from every field of nursing she worked in, she was without a doubt a hospice nurse. Theresa’s career in nursing was not just a profession but a calling. She touched the lives of countless individuals with her kindness and expert care.
She found joy in painting, and being around others who also enjoyed being creative. She and her sisters would attend Santa Fe Crossing Senior Center (Station 618) every Tuesday to paint. When Theresa wasn’t painting she enjoyed time with her family; she usually had to help her sister, Cindy “get the story straight”, when they would be at family functions and there would be some wild tale being told from the past.
As a devout Christian, Theresa’s life was a living sermon. She found strength and wisdom in studying the Word of God, and her faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She guided her children and taught them how important it was to have an unwavering belief and love for the Lord. Her children whom she cherished most in her life, includes her daughter, Jessica Herman-Fincher, and her husband William, along with their daughter Kenzie, all of Water Valley, TX. Her son, Ethan Lewis of San Angelo, TX, also survives her. Theresa’s siblings, Cynthia Prater (Ken), Bill Herman, Jr. (Alice), and Velda Kay Tiblets (Charles), and their families.
Theresa’s life was a testament to the power of love and faith. She walked through life with grace, always seeking to uplift those around her as well as share her faith. She was a prime example of what it meant to live a life filled with purpose. Her passions, love for her family, and her deep-rooted faith are legacies that she leaves behind.
Theresa is preceded in death by her parents and nephew JB Prater.
