State Rep. Drew Darby joined AT&T and Compudopt to present San Angelo Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Christopher Moran and the San Angelo Schools Foundation with 50 laptop computers.
According to a news release on Friday, the refurbished computers will be distributed to those in need.

“The personal computers our students receive today represent an investment in their education and their future—an investment that will pay dividends in their academic growth and independence,” said State Rep. Drew Darby. “Through collaborative efforts like this, we can continue ensuring that more Texans have access to the tools they need to participate in the digital world fully. I am deeply grateful to AT&T and Compudopt for their vision and commitment to expanding connectivity in San Angelo.”
According to U.S. Census Bureau data, millions nationwide still don’t have access to the internet or the connected devices needed to fully participate in online learning opportunities, an issue known as “the digital divide.”

“The San Angelo Schools Foundation has been involved in education in San Angelo for more than 35 years,” said Noreen B. Carpenter, Executive Director, San Angelo Schools Foundation. “We are proud to support our local teachers and the school community with grants that support their classroom and our local students. Our collaboration today with AT&T is another great example of how we can all work together to support San Angelo students.”
According to Ben Russell with AT&T, this effort is part of the company’s initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption, as AT&T commits $5 billion toward helping 25 million get connected and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030.
The plan has included distributing more than 23,000 computers to students and their families across Texas since 2021.
“As part of AT&T’s ongoing commitment to connect more Texas communities, we are proud to work with Compudopt and the San Angelo Schools Foundation to provide 50 refurbished laptops to local students,” said Matt Foster, Director of External Affairs, AT&T. “These refurbished computers are designed to help recipients participate in online learning and digital life.”
