OBITUARY

Shirley Jean Thompson, a beloved resident of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on February 13, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on February 20, 1935, Shirley lived a life marked by bravery, compassion, devotion, faithfulness, gentleness, and honesty.

In her early years, Shirley was a high school graduate who pursued studies in home economics and cosmetology, skills she used to serve her community through food, hairdressing, and clothing. Her career was diverse and dedicated, beginning as a janitor cleaning offices and working as a shirt pressor, and some time at ATT. She furthered her education in nursing, eventually working in convalescent homes and retiring as a private nurse.

Shirley was married to Robert Hollins, who preceded her in death, as did her grandchild, Marvina Minor. She is survived by her children, Marvin Barnes Sr., Belinda Patton, and Sherry Hollins Barnes. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Sylvia Hollins (Andre), Tina Hunter (James, Sr.), Marcia Coley, Marvin Barnes, Jr., and Brian Barnes; as well as her great-grandchildren, Marshall Matthews (Dana), Sheleby Williams, Shae Young, Brendaya Thielmann (Sean), Bella Dandridge (Marcus), James Hunter, Jr., Manny Coley, Simone Coley, Grace Coley, and Victoria Minor. Her great-great-grandchildren include Jayla Young, Julian Young, Janelle Young, Aspen Thielmann, and Baby Dandridge.

Shirley cherished books, reading and writing, western movies, and the beach. She had an adventurous palate and loved trying new foods. Her hobbies included quilting, word and picture puzzles, and solitaire. In her community, she was known for cooking for the homeless in San Diego, her belief in Jesus Christ, and her membership at Word of Life Church.

Her personal qualities were remarkable; she was selfless, dependable, generous, courageous, and a superhero to her children. Shirley valued family above all, offering her support day and night. Her beauty, confidence, and hardworking nature left a lasting legacy of love and acceptance.

The family expresses deep gratitude to all who supported them, including friends at C.B.S., the sweet K. Angels, sister Cleta, Tommy and Debbie Olives, Pastor Falcon of Word of Life Church, and Johnson’s Funeral Home for their care and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home, located at 435 West Beauregard, San Angelo, TX 76903, on February 20, 2026, from 5 to 6 p.m. The family has requests that attendees wear purple to honor Ms. Thompson.

Shirley’s last words to her children were, “I’ll miss you all, I love you all.” Her profound faith and love continue to inspire those she leaves behind. She will be remembered fondly and missed deeply by all who knew her.
