Preliminary voting totals indicate voters approved San Angelo ISDs $397 million plan to build, improve and repair schools, ending the 17-year funding stranglehold on the district, and gave the thumbs-up to a $41.6 overhaul of the City Coliseum, changing the partnership agreement between the city and the Rodeo Association.

Mayor Elect Tom Thompson appears to have won by 51.8 percent of the vote, heading off the need for any runoffs. Trinidad Aguirre trailed a distant second-place with 24.3 percent.

In the race for SMD 2 representative, Joe Self shows to have received 37 percent of a three-way split, with Dudra Butler close behind garnering 33 percent. John Bariou received 24 percent of the vote. Runoff date to be announced.

In the race for SMD 4 representative, Patrick Keely received 63.8 percent of the vote over Jamal Shumpert.

In SAISD Board of Trustees elections, SMD 4’s voters returned Ami Mizell-Flint for another term, while SMD 2 voters chose newcomer Karla Cardenas as their representative.

All voting totals are unofficial until canvassed.
