Salene Howard Willoughby (1936-2025)

OBITUARY

Salene Howard Willoughby peacefully left this earth for her heavenly home on Monday, November 3, 2025. Living in Dallas, she was 89.

Salene was born on October 28, 1936, to George and Clemmie Howard in Texarkana, Texas. Her school years were in Ft. Worth, Texas, graduating from Paschal High School in 1954.

She attended Texas Tech University before becoming a flight attendant for Braniff Airlines. She married Ray W Willoughby, Jr., on May 18, 1958. Ray was in the Army and was stationed in Japan. While living in Japan she had her first child, Ray W Willoughby, III. Upon returning to Dallas for her husband to finish college at SMU, their second child, Edward Starr Willoughby was born in 1963. They moved to Houston, and their daughter Jennifer Clara Willoughby was born in 1967.

She was married to Ray until September of 1993 when he passed away. She is also proceeded in death by her parents and only sibling, Ava Howard Martin.

She is survived by her children Ray W Willoughby, III (Jeri Ann), Edward Starr Willoughby (Kris), and Jennifer Clara Willoughby.

Salene is also survived by her grandchildren, Travis Starr (Kelci) Willoughby, Davis Ray Willoughby, Stephanie Clara Hirschbrich, Eric Willoughby Hirschbrich, and Christopher Starr Hirschbrich.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ta Cargile, along with many nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed competitive tennis for many years and loved to travel. She loved her children and grandchildren and lived in Dallas to be near them. She was a member of the Christian Science Church. She will be buried alongside her beloved Ray at Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas at a private Graveside service.

Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
