San Angelo Independent School District invites families to the “Manos a la Obra,” (Hands to Work) event to spotlight bilingual education from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Bradford Elementary, 2302 Bradford St.
According to a news release from the district, this is the fifth year for the event, which aims to teach attendees more about the program, utilizing students’ primary language of Spanish as a resource to help them gain full proficiency in English including listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
The event will also feature useful information on resources available in the community.
According to education experts, developing a child’s home language is critical for developing their English language skills, and research has shown that English learners who receive bilingual instruction at an early age are more successful academically, and have higher achievements in later grades.
The event will also include:
- Children’s book giveaways
- Snacks and refreshments
- Activities with our Lake View High School Ambassadors student group
- Assistance with the registration process for the 2025-2026 school year
- San Angelo READS! story time read alouds
- Special guest H-E-Buddy, and more!
