San Angelo Independent School District recognized 40 exemplary students of Central, and Lake View high schools who earned College Board Recognition this year.
Twenty-nine of the students received the School Recognition Award, while nine earned the First Generation Recognition Award, and two received the Rural and Small-Town Recognition Award.
To qualify, students must take advanced tests by Grade 10, along with GPA requirements before applying, and be one of the 10 percent of test takers in their school among first generation college students in their state, or among rural and small-town students in their state, among other qualifiers.
Along with the College Board honors, 98 students received AP Scholar Awards; who qualified by scoring “3” on three-or-more AP exams. Those with a score of 3.25 or higher are Scholars with Honor, and many were AP Scholars of Distinction, with a score of 3.5 or higher.

Bond Construction Ahead of Schedule
Carl Dannheim, Parkhill Construction Director, provided his regular bond construction update at the Pre-Agenda workshop; sharing the progress at Crockett Elementary, and discussing the plans for the new John Glenn Middle School and Central High School; along with updates for Lake View construction.
Utility and concrete work is underway at Crockett, and the project is ahead of its August 2026 completion date.

At John Glenn, the final stages of individual room planning are underway. The new facility features over 40 new classrooms. Superintendent Moran inquired if geology surveys had been conducted already, noting that in the past construction around these areas was delayed by the presence of large boulders underneath that part of town. Dannheim noted that they had taken that into account and were not anticipating any delays.

Dannheim also shared early concept art of the new Central gym.
Now the work begins sourcing and budgeting specific building materials for the new projects, which will be the main concern of planners going into the new year.

SAISD is ordered to develop two new programs; a cybersecurity plan and determine a program to base it on, and to do the same with Artificial Intelligence.
The policy CQD (LOCAL) reads “Employees and students shall be permitted to explore AI and implement its use in and out of the classroom in accordance with policy and administrative regulations.
“The use of AI shall only by used as a support tool to enhance student outcomes and shall never take the place of teacher and student decision making.”
