Superintendent explains reason for failing scores

San Angelo ISD’s Texas School Report Card was released on Thursday, and the official grade for the district is a D-rating from the Texas Education Agency, with a score of 68 of 100.

According to a press release from the district in anticipation of the news, SAISD Superintendent Dr. Christopher Moran sent a letter out to families.

“I want to share important information that will impact San Angelo ISD’s academic accountability rating from the (TEA) for the 2022-2023 school year…

“For that school year, a reporting error led to incomplete data being submitted to the TEA. Specifically, grade information from Lake View High School for the spring 2022 semester was dropped from our report during the electronic submission process. As a result, our district’s accountability rating is expected to be a D, and Lake View High School’s rating would be an F.”

Dr. Moran went on to explain that safeguards have since been put in place to prevent reporting errors in the future, and the district is in the process of appealing the matter and submitting corrected data to the TEA, noting that there is a 3-year lag in the release of these reports.

Overall Rating – D

68 out of 100

This rating is intended to measure how much students are learning in each grade, and whether or not they are ready for the next grade; it also measures how well districts are preparing students for success after high school.

According to information from the TEA, overall grades for districts and schools are calculated based on performance in three key areas, taking the higher score between how much students know (Student Achievement) or how much better students are doing than last year (School Progress).

Student Achievement – D

69 out of 100

The enrollment is actually the number of students tested, I beleive. I know that several of those numbers are too low for whole school enrollment.
