San Angelo Independent School District officials, and the San Angelo Police Department addressed allegations regarding inappropriate conduct involving an employee at Lake View High School in news releases Wednesday morning.
According to the statement from SAISD, administrators were made aware of the allegations and acted immediately in accordance with established policies.
According to information from SAPD, police were contacted by a third party regarding the allegation, which was investigated by the Crimes Against Children Unit.
As a result of the investigation, a warrant was issued for Abraham Gonzales, 24, who voluntarily turned himself into the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, who will be handling the investigation going forward.
Police officials said there also was an allegation made during the investigation that a School-Resource Officer had engaged in inappropriate communications with the same victim.
As a result, the officer was immediately placed on administrative leave while the investigation proceeds.
“The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. San Angelo ISD maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any behavior that compromises the integrity of our learning environment,” SAISD’s news release stated.
“To protect the privacy of all parties involved, we cannot provide further details at this time. However, we are committed to keeping our community informed, as appropriate, while adhering to legal and ethical guidelines.
“San Angelo ISD remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive educational environment for all students, families, and staff.”
According to information from the Tom Green County Jail, Gonzales was booked at 5:33 a.m. charged with Improper Relationship Between Teacher/Student. His bond was set at $50,000.
