According to original reporting by Concho Valley Homepage on Friday, San Angelo Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Christopher Moran announced the board’s commitment to closing two more elementary school to address declining enrollments.
CV Homepages’ Shawn Torres reports the news came from the monthly “Superintendent Updates” newsletter of Dec. 18 where Dr. Moran writes that the administration and Board of Trustees “are committed to a plan to close two elementary school campuses effective July 1, 2027, in response to continued declining enrollment.
“This plan will reduce the number of elementary schools from 14 to 12, effective the Fall of 2027. In addition, the Spring 2026 semester will include a committee of San Angelo ISD parents, leaders, and employees engaging in the work to evaluate elementary school attendance boundaries.
“The goal of the committee is to provide a recommendation to the Board of Trustees by Summer 2026 for new elementary attendance zones, effective July 1, 2027.
“It will be important to populate the 12 elementary schools with those students living in the newly adopted attendance zones so that we can be good stewards of our resources and ensure the highest-quality academic program possible for all students. This should not impact magnet and special programs.”
Dr. Moran closed with a promise to communicate with stakeholders more frequently about the subject over the newxt two years.
“By providing a stronger academic program, continuing to be great stewards of our community resources and improving our efficiencies as a district, San Angelo ISD will fulfill our mission,” Moran said.
