Dr. Taylor Kingman plans to run for reelection to the San Angelo Independent School District Board to Trustees. Dr. Kingman represents District 3, and presently serves as President of the Board. He has served on the School Board since 2017.
When asked why he was running for reelection Dr. Kingman said, “My wife and I have spent the last eight years committed to the betterment of SAISD. There have been many challenges including failed bonds, COVID, teacher shortages, and financial constraints. Through it all, I am proud of the work our team has done to continue to put student success at the forefront. We have many recent successes, such as the expansion of Fannin and McGill and district alignment with our curriculum. Over the next four years, with the passage of Proposition A and a clearly outlined plan forward, I want SAISD to be the leader in academic rigor, career and technology education, as well as extracurricular experiences. I want the great students in SAISD to be at the destination district in West Texas. I am committed to doing everything I can as a member of the SAISD board of trustees to make that a reality.”
Amy Mizell-Flint, representing District 4, has already filed for reelection. She has served on the School Board since 2013.
Ms. Mizell-Flint said, “Representing Single Member District 4 and SAISD as a whole, at the local, state, and national levels has been an honor for me for the past twelve years. We have done a lot of work, but there is still a lot to be done. I would love the opportunity to continue to be a part of the team doing work that will make our District and our community stronger.”
As of publication, Trustees Bill Dendle (Dist. 1) and Lupita Arroyo (Dist. 2) did not respond to our inquiry as to whether they intended to run for reelection.
Several significant issues will be facing the School Board over the next few years. These include a proposed $400 Million Bond Election, closing San Jacinto Elementary, Reagan Elementary and Bowie Elementary, possible consolidation of other elementary schools, and the impact of the 89th legislative session on school finance and a possible voucher plan promised by the Governor and Lt. Governor.
The election will be held Saturday May 3, 2025. The deadline to file as a candidate is February 14, 2025. Persons interested in running for School Board should contact the Superintendent’s Office at the SAISD Administration Building 1621 University San Angelo, Texas (325) 947-3700 or email alicia.singleton@saisd.org.
