Update on Bond Projects

Architect and contractor have been selected for Crockett, and construction is anticipated to begin by the end of the month, anticipated completion in 2026.

At McGill, bids for contractors have begun, with proposed completion in 2027.

Planning officials have toured middle schools built within the last 15 years to inform the design the new Glenn Middle School.

Tax Rate Proposal Below Maximum Approved Rate

The vote will be held at the regular meeting to approve the 1.07 percent ad valorum tax rate, which comes in less than the maximum rate approved by voters of 1.08.

The addition will allow parents to prohibit their children from checking out certain books.

A dedicated page for parents has been set up for parents to approve which library books their students can check out.

Adopts Phone Policy per Legislature Guidelines

The phone policy was approved and will be voted on at the regular meeting, in time for the September 1 deadline set by the state legislature.

The policy reads: “A student shall not use a personal communication device on school property during the school day. While on school property, the student shall store any personal communication device in accordance with administrative regulations.

Still In The Black

Board members remarked during the financial report that SAISD was not running a deficit budget even after teacher wages increases went up. This in light of news from around the state of many school districts running into the red before paying for their standard operating budget.

Anticipated enrollment of 12,800 students, at a 93.5 percent attendance rate, and the anticipated 1.3 percent overall decline in enrollment means the budget for this year is based on an estimate of 11,812 students.

HVAC Contracts, New Lights at San Angelo Stadium

Contract for HVAC filter maintenance was proposed, along with the construction of lights in the parking lot of San Angelo stadium. These will be voted on at the regular board meeting.

The next regular board meeting is on August 25, at 5:45 p.m.
