OBITUARY

Rosita Bernal, 98, of Christoval, beloved mother of Father Fabian, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in Christoval, TX.

Rosita was born July 14, 1927, in Bayamo, Cuba, to Manuel Bernal Casals and Sofia Estrada Alvarez. She grew up in Santiago De Las Vegas, Cuba, and attended schools there.

Rosita immigrated to Miami, Florida in 1962, where she worked for many years in food service, cafeterias and in various other professions.

Rosita also started her own clothing company during her professional life and maintained it for many years.

In 1987, she moved to San Angelo, Texas to be near her son and established the La Milagrosa religious goods store. She ran this for several years but in 1991 decided to move to Christoval to help support her son in the foundation of Mount Carmel Hermitage.

Rosita loved being at the hermitage and cherished spending time there. Her charity and motherly care were evident on a daily basis.

Rosita worked hard and personally facilitated Fr. Fabian’s education. Many times, Rosita would ask for food and donations to support Fr. Fabian and the brothers of Mt. Carmel Hermitage. She especially enjoyed selling the products made by the brothers in the various parishes.

Rosita spent many days cooking, cleaning and helping to make the Hermitage products themselves. She radiated joy, confidence and love with all those she met.

Rosita was a member of the Third Order of Carmelites and avidly participated in the Cursillo movement, where she made many friends who remained friends throughout her life.

Rosita was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Sofia Bernal, her sisters, Sarah Maida Pazos and Mirtha Brito and her niece Ima Pazos.

She is survived by her son, Father Fabian R. Rosette, and all the brothers of Mount Carmel Hermitage, several nieces and nephews and other family members and close friends.

The Vigil service for Rosita will be at 6:00 PM, Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Holy Angels Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 3, 2025, at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow at The Mount Carmel Hermitage Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Carmel Heritage, P.O. Box 337, Christoval, TX 76935.
