THE SAN ANGELO SCENE
This weekend is absolutely packed to the gills with live music. Tonight, you can catch The Smokin Oaks and Blacktop Mojo at City Limits. The House of Fifi Dubois is booked solid with country artists like Lynn Massey, Allen Ray, and Darren Morrison. And the Green Apple Music Series continues with Nik Parr and the Selfless Lovers at the Chicken Farm.
But first, a brief look at a new album from Rita Capuchina y Animo: “¿QUE HACES?”

I bought a copy of this album up at the Musical Crossroads show at The San Angelo Performing Arts Center, and I watched them that night in the Brooks and Bates Theater.
With such a large band, they’re able to create a really full sound: a really entertaining mix of Mexican pop and dance, and traditional rock.
Capuchina Y Animo have been playing quite a few gigs around town, and you might have seen them at the Taste of San Angelo last week.
“¿QUE HACES?” features ten songs, sitting right at 35 minutes.
A few highlights include “Juguete En Tus Manos” (Toy in Your Hands), “Volverás A Mi” (You Will Come Back To Me) and “Ni Tú Ni Nadie” (Neither You Nor Anyone Else), with both feature great guitar work — and of course the title track “¿Que Haces?” (What Are You Doing?), which is probably the catchiest one in the bunch.
This album is distributed through Shellshock Records out of San Antonio, and is available on Spotify and Apple Music.

Double Header at City Limits Tonight
Thursday night features a 2-for-1 at City Limits, where The Smokin’ Oaks will play alongside an acoustic set from Blacktop Mojo. The Smokin’ Oaks hail from Yukon, OK. Described as “red dirt rock.” Blacktop Mojo comes to us from Palestine, TX., releasing their first album in 2014, and backing it up with four more since. Both artists are available on Spotify.

All Country Weekend At Fifi’s
The House of Fifi Dubois is booked solid with country artists like Lynn Massey and Allen Ray. Darren Morrison is set to perform Saturday at 2 p.m. for a fundraiser matinee:
“Beloved brother, friend, hero, and all-around good soul – known to so many as Meatball – is in the fight of his life against stage 4 cancer. He’s a devoted husband, a proud father to three amazing kids, and the kind of man who’s always been there for everyone else. Now, it’s our turn to be there for him.”

Alternative Blues and Roots at Chicken Farm
The Green Apple Music series continues with Nik Parr & The Selfless Lovers, out of Austin. Bandleader Nik Parr, apparently, can play Saxophone and Piano at the same time, so be sure to keep an eye out for that. Their style has been described as “piano driven rock.”

Jacob Soto at Penny Tap House
Jacob Soto has been making a name for himself recently: you might have caught him at Spam’s earlier this summer, and for good reason. He’s got a great voice, solid backing band, and plays the crowd. His style is steady mix of country, blues and gospel. Show starts Saturday, 9 p.m.
