OBITUARY

Patricia Ann (Bertschman) Barnes, passed away on November 17, 2025, at the age of 92. A resident of Katy, TX; Pat lived a life marked by dedication to her family, career, and community.

Born on April 16, 1933, Pat attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Kirksville, but left school after her 9th-grade year. Demonstrating her resilient spirit, she later attended Pace in Kirksville to obtain her G.E.D. Pat furthered her education by taking college courses to support her career in accounting and administration.

Pat’s professional journey included significant roles at Hollister, Inc. in Kirksville, Missouri, from 1965 to 1979, followed by positions at Circle K and Town & Country Corporation offices in San Angelo, Texas. She concluded her career at Allied/J&D Diagnostics in Katy, Texas, where she worked until her full retirement in 2011. Even after semi-retiring, Pat volunteered for House of Faith, a non-profit organization in San Angelo, Texas, until her move to Katy in 2006.

Pat was married to Kenneth Eugene Barnes for 45 years. Together, they lived in Kirksville, Missouri, before moving to San Angelo, Texas, in 1979. Pat and Kenneth were blessed with five children: Carolyn Ray of Kirksville, Missouri; Teresa Long (Ron) of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; Sharon Martin (Terry) of Katy, Texas; Bunny Housewright (Dewayne) of San Angelo, Texas; and Randy Barnes (Linda) of Cabot, Arkansas. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren: Curtis, Tracey, Jennifer, Sheila, Brad, Kim, Christy, Angie, Tammy, April, Shawna, Brian, and Michael.

In her personal life, Pat enjoyed cooking, with homemade noodles being her specialty. She had a love for mystery novels and movies and took pleasure in sewing, needlepoint, and cross-stitch.

Pat was a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior. Her greatest joy was serving alongside the churches where she worshipped. Her involvement with the House of Faith in San Angelo, Texas, brought her immense joy. Pat found peace in nature, her faithful pet companions, and the music of the Church.

Pat leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by her great-grandchildren: Jacob, Trevor, Pruitt, Sarah Kate, Riggs, Emerson, Anderson, Jeremy, Elizabeth, Emily, Breydon, Carolyne, Lainey, Lilly, Luke, Josh, Bradley, Kenny, Andrew, Jake, Rodger, Kaitlyn, Hailey, Corbin, Lily, and Braydon. She is also survived by her great-great-grandchildren: Quinn, Quade, Truett, Parker Jane, Mason, Wrenleigh, Ellie, Addy, Marshall, Rosemary, Wyatt, and Maddie.

She treasured her “Bonus” family, the Bissey’s, with whom she served at the Church of God in Kirksville, Missouri, as a Sunday School Teacher.

Pat’s favorite quote, from “Streams in the Desert” by Anna McGhie, reflects her belief in the truth of God’s Word as a firm foundation: “Three men were walking on a wall; Feeling, Faith & Fact. When Feeling took an awful fall and Faith was taken back. Faith being so close to Feeling, he stumbled and fell too. But Fact remained and pulled Faith back and Faith brought Feeling back too.”

Patricia will be remembered for her unwavering faith, love for her family, and dedication to her community.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. in Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
