Mourn The Abandoned Veterans: A Call to Action

Texas has long stood as the proudest home of our nation’s veterans. Over 1.5 million service members live in the Lone Star State. These brave men and women have been the backbone of our economy, our workforce, and our communities. They are business owners, public servants, and the living embodiment of sacrifice and honor. Yet today, despite our deep-rooted commitment to those who have served, a treacherous betrayal is unfolding. It is a betrayal that threatens to abandon the very people who fought for our freedom.

West Texas Veterans At Risk

In West Texas alone, over 56,000 veterans depend on the West Texas Veterans Administration Health Care System for essential services. Each year, the VA hospital in Big Spring completes more than 170,000 outpatient visits. These numbers are not just statistics. They are our fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters, our neighbors who bore the burden of battle. They depend on us to keep our sacred promise of enduring care.

But that promise is now under siege.

Trump, Musk Betray Our Veterans

Project 2025—a policy crafted by the Heritage Foundation and other radical think tanks—threatens to gut veterans’ benefits in ways that are as cruel as they are unconscionable. Spearheaded by figures like Elon Musk, this plan will cut millions of dollars from veteran and service member benefits. It will strip away concurrent eligibility for disability and retirement benefits. The plan redefines service-related disabilities to deny coverage, and shut down vital VA clinics. The plan is to replace them with inferior, profit-driven alternatives that will increase wait times, and leave thousands of veterans without lifesaving care.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk is pocketing $600,000 in VA contracts. He also received a jaw-dropping $28 billion from the Department of Defense. Yet the Trump Administration says nothing about slashing those deals. Cuts for veterans and the vulnerable, but billions for a billionaire? The hypocrisy stinks!

And the assault doesn’t end there.

Trump, Musk Want To Take Away TRICARE

Project 2025 seeks to privatize TRICARE, forcing military families into expensive private insurance plans. Married service members will see their housing allowances slashed in half, pushing countless military families into financial distress. Veterans will be buried under bureaucratic red tape. They will be forced to justify every home repair, utility bill, and rent payment just to keep a roof over their heads.

The Trump Administration’s proposals are acts of war against those who gave everything for their country.

Have we forgotten our sacred duty to our veterans? Have we forgotten President Ronald Reagan’s wisdom when he said, “Veterans know better than anyone else the price of freedom, for they’ve suffered the scars of war. We can offer them no better tribute than to protect what they have won for us.”

If we allow this betrayal—this assault on our heroes—to go unchecked, we dishonor not only our veterans but the very values they fought to defend. It is time to take a stand.

Call To Action

Call your elected officials. Demand they reject Project 2025 and any Trump/Musk policy that steals from those who have sacrificed everything. Raise your voice and make it heard. If you stay silent, you become part of the betrayal.

And to Elon Musk, an unelected billionaire who has no right to dictate American policy: Go home to South Africa. The business of governing America belongs to Americans. It’s time for ICE to put him in chains and send him out of our country.

Our veterans have sacrificed enough. Now, it is our turn to fight for them.

Damn right, Constance! This is a betrayal of the highest order. Our veterans didn’t put their lives on the line so politicians and billionaire leeches could gut their benefits and leave them for dead. Project 2025 isn’t just bad policy—it’s a declaration of war against the men and women who swore an oath to this nation.

I spent decades in uniform, and I’ve seen firsthand the sacrifices our service members make. Now, Trump and Musk want to slash their healthcare, gut their benefits, and throw military families into financial ruin—all while Musk lines his pockets with government contracts? This is a disgrace. If these cowards had ever set foot on a battlefield, they’d know that abandoning your own is the greatest sin a soldier can commit.

We won’t stand for this. Congress better grow a damn spine and kill Project 2025 before it does irreparable harm. And as for Musk—he’s no patriot. He’s a parasite feeding off the very people he’s trying to rob. If he wants to play king, he can do it somewhere else. America belongs to the people who fought for it, not to some billionaire with a God complex.
