OBITUARY
Jeff Chunn of San Angelo, died January 12, 2026, at the age of 66.
Jeff Chunn, the youngest of four children, was born on September 29, 1960, in Dayton, OH. As the son of a military father, Jeff experienced life in many places while growing up, including Redlands, California; Adana, Turkey; Alexandria, Virginia; Biloxi, Mississippi; and ultimately San Angelo, Texas, which became his longtime home.
Jeff attended Glenn Junior High and graduated from San Angelo Central High School, where he was a member of the swim team and the Key Club (and kept the school mascot, a bobcat, at our house one year).
He went on to attend Angelo State University and later built a career in real estate, managing properties. Jeff had a deep love for singing and songwriting and spent a short time living in Nashville, where he recorded some of his own music. For many years, he worked alongside his close friend Bob Thomas in home remodeling and repair. After Bob’s retirement, Jeff continued that work independently, taking great pride in helping others care for their homes.
A devoted member of the Southgate Church of Christ, Jeff served faithfully in many ways. He led singing, taught Bible classes, and shared his love of worship with others. For many years, he led singing once a month at Park Plaza Nursing Home, a ministry that meant a great deal to him. Jeff was a favorite high school Bible class teacher and taught for many years in the college and young singles class, where he often brought breakfast for the students on Sunday mornings. He later began hosting Wednesday night suppers at the church building for the college group during the school year. Jeff had a servant’s heart – he quietly helped whenever he could, didn’t say no when someone was in need, and consistently encouraged others through thoughtful cards and messages. He cherished his family and close friends and never hesitated to be generous whenever he could.
Jeff met his future wife, Jackie, in 1992 through a mutual friend. What began as a strong friendship grew into a shared life filled with meaningful traditions. Together, they enjoyed searching year-round for antiques and unique gifts for family and friends. They also shared a love of baseball, traveling to see several major league teams play, including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, and of course, the Texas Rangers. Halloween was Jackie’s favorite holiday, and in celebration of that joy, Jeff and Jackie chose October 31 as their wedding day in 2016.
Jeff courageously battled ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, for approximately five years. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 12, 2026.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Kathy Chunn, and by his beloved wife, Jackie. He is survived by his brother Eric and wife Reba of San Angelo; his sister Valerie and husband Philip of Bluffton, South Carolina; and his brother Kurt and wife Debra of San Angelo. He is also survived by his niece, Lauren Gonzalez, her husband Nick, and their children, Joseph (Joey) and June, of Missoula, MT, as well as many close friends and church members.
A big thanks to Dr. Carl Anderton for his care and guidance for Jeff’s healthcare, as well as the caring members at Gentiva Hospice (nurses Timesha, Kim, Stephanie, and CNA Mercedes) as well as their social workers, Jaclyn and Randa.
A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, February 11, 1 p.m. at the Southgate church of Christ in San Angelo.
