Rodeo Slack
This week, the Rodeo Slack competition took place, providing an opportunity for contestants who have not yet earned their PRCA cards to showcase their skills.
Slack consists of two full rounds of timed events, including calf roping, team roping, and steer wrestling. The winner of this event will secure a spot in the prestigious PRCA Finals, which will take place on April 18th at 7:00 p.m. The arena is already sold out, and fans are eagerly anticipating a night full of exciting competition.
93rd Annual San Angelo Rodeo Parade
On Sunday, April 15th, the annual San Angelo Rodeo Parade delighted the community despite the rain the night before. The parade committee worked tirelessly to line up parade entries, and the people of San Angelo turned out in full force to celebrate this long-standing tradition. As one of the largest annual parades in the city, it remains a favorite among spectators, and this year was no exception.

Let’s wrap up the rodeo season in style with this fantastic cultural celebration!
The Coliseum Bond: Addressing Overcrowding and Enhancing the Community
It’s no secret that tickets for the San Angelo Rodeo often sell out quickly, and with the growing popularity of the event, it’s become clear that the current coliseum can no longer meet the demand for seating. However, if the coliseum bond passes, there will be significant improvements to accommodate more attendees. The proposed upgrades include:
- 3,000 additional grandstand seats
- 2,150 new skybox suites and club level seats
- 233 more lavatories, 95 more urinals, and 204 more toilets
- 44 additional HC/ADA seats, with 60 accompanying seats
These enhancements will not only help accommodate more fans, but they will also benefit local businesses. With more people attending the rodeo, hotels will be booked up, restaurants will serve more customers, and local shops will see an increase in foot traffic. This is a great opportunity to help transform San Angelo into an even more vibrant business hub.
Upon completion of the project, the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Association (SASSRA) will assume responsibility for the maintenance and operations of the Coliseum. The current partnership with the City of San Angelo (COSA) will remain in place, with SASSRA contributing a $2 per seat fee for all events where seating is sold under its management. The minimum annual payment to COSA is estimated to range from $180K to $210K, depending on the final seating capacity (which will increase from 10,150 to up to 11,484 seats).
These improvements will ensure the San Angelo Rodeo remains a premier destination for fans and will have a positive economic impact on the local community for years to come.
