It was a cool, foggy morning. Ideal weather to curl up with a good book. But the most dedicated readers in town were tapping their feet outside the front door of Nook and Press Saturday morning, San Angelo’s newest book shop, for their ‘soft opening’. You can read more about the owner’s vision here.

The store features books of all genres: romance, fantasy, non-fiction, cooking, self help, along with a nice little vintage book and records area in the back. A few readers dropped in just to take advantage of the reading areas set up throughout the store. Refreshments are available as well.

Inventory will grow and diversify over the next few months: the owner, Jaton Hampton, says that she plans on bringing in more history and non-fiction.

Many said they were excited to have a new book store, with one customer expressing her love of the physical art: “I love it, the feel of the pages, the smell of the book. Not everyone wants to go digital!”

Nook and Press is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. 3566 Knickerbocker Road.
