OBITUARY

Edith Armilda Goswick, lovingly known as “Bossy Granny,” passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on January 3, 2026.

Born July 5, 1934, in Childress County Texas, Edith lived a life defined by love, resilience, and devotion to her family.

She spent most of her years in Westmorland, California, where she became a cherished member of the community. Known for living in the first house as you entered town, Edith welcomed everyone with a warm meal, a cup of coffee, or a good deal at one of her well-known yard sales-always sending guests off with her famous tagline, “Y’all come back.”

Her home was a gathering place filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of her cooking. She took joy in preparing meals and bringing loved ones together for every holiday, building traditions that will be cherished for generations to come.

Edith worked for many years at Johnny’s Liquor Store, where her friendly spirit and hard work earned her the respect of all who knew her. She retired in the early 2000s and, in 2017, returned to her roots in Texas to spend her final years surrounded by loved ones.

As the matriarch of her family, Edith raised several generations of strong women, instilling in them the values of kindness, strength, and perseverance.

She is survived by her daughters: Cathy Kilgore, Zandy (Jack Crawford) McDaniel, and Jenitta (Ron) Thomas; her sister Venitta Williams; and her brother James (Sandy) Harris. Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a large extended family, and countless friends who will forever cherish her memory.

She is met in heaven by her parents, Joe Dee and Elsie Harris; her son, Jerry Cleavland Goswick; and Jimmy McDaniel.

Edith will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love. Her life was a testament to family and community-a beacon of hospitality and strength that will never fade.

A celebration of Edith’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor her remarkable journey.
