OBITUARY

Darletta “Kay” Smart, born July 20, 1949, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, at the age of 76.

She was born in Navasota, Texas, to Louis Jr. and Bonnie Muston Baker.

In September of 1965, Kay married Wilbur Ohlemacher, and together they welcomed three children. Years later, she found lasting love again with her husband of 17 years, Tommy Smart. Their marriage was filled with laughter, devotion, and many cherished memories.

Kay worked for several years as a quality control inspector at Ethicon, but her true passions were found outside the workplace.

She was an exceptional baker, known especially for creating beautiful wedding cakes, and she was also a talented painter. Kay had a deep love for racing—not only supporting others in the sport, but becoming a skilled racer herself.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Milton Eugene Baker; her daughter, Redaina Kaufman; her stepson, John Smart; and her grandson, Kevin Ohlemacher.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Tommy Smart; her brother, Ron Baker; her sons, Cam Ohlemacher and Darold Ohlemacher; her stepsons, Dan Smart and Paul Smart; along with 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life honoring Kay will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Freedom Fellowship Church.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Park Plaza, Cedar Manor, and St. Gabriel’s Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Kay in her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cedar Manor or St. Gabriel’s Hospice in Kay’s name.
