San Angelo’s own Rep. Drew Darby was named chairman of the Texas House Committee on Energy Resources, as well as a member of the House Committees on Administration and State Affairs by Speaker Dustin Burrows.
Burrows made the announcement on Thursday, setting assignments for the 89th Legislative Session, according to a press release.

“I am tremendously grateful to Speaker Burrows for these appointments and honored to serve as chairman of the House Energy Resources Committee,” Rep. Darby said. “West Texas is crucial to America’s energy security and independence.

“I look forward to advancing policies that support our oil-and-gas industry while promoting all of the above energy strategies.”

The House Committee on Energy Resources oversees a wide range of energy policies in Texas, including alternative energy sources such as nuclear power — a key priority for Gov. Greg Abbott during this session.

Chairman Darby said he is eager to tackle innovative legislation to maintain Texas’ dominant energy status.

“I look forward to working alongside Vice-Chair Eddie Morales and all committee members as we advocate for rural Texas and the millions of people who live, work, and thrive because of the energy industry,” Darby stated.

Rep. Darby serves House District 72, which includes Coke, Coleman, Concho, Glasscock, Howard, Irion, Reagan, Runnels, Sterling, and Tom Green counties.
