The Texas Transportation Commission recently awarded $62,500 to the Concho Valley Transit District as part of a move to provide service for Mason County, just outside the local Council of Governments’ area, according to CVT Transportation Director Jeff York.

York said the funding came from the Federal Transit Administration and the state to help defray costs associated with a change by Central Texas Transit District that left some Central Texas counties without rural public transportation.
“As of March 1, Concho Valley Transit District has acquired Mason County,” York explained. “Mason had been part of another transit district called “The HOP,” and they released that county, and three others, to other agencies.
“That’s why TxDOT awarded us funds, to help take on the new service, so we now serve a 13-county area.”
York said the staff already in place was retained to smooth the transition, and
CVTD now serves as a rural transit district for Coke, Concho, Crockett, Irion, Kimble, McCulloch, Mason, Menard, Reagan, Schleicher, Sterling, Sutton, and Tom Green counties. The Concho Valley Council of Governments is the parent agency of CVTD.
