Canine companions were very-well behaved on Wednesday as their people brought them out to the free microchipping event hosted by the City’s Animal Services Department.
A steady stream of folks pulled up to the big parking lot at 1500 N. Chadbourne St, in front of Benjamin Villarreal’s State Farm office, and the folks running the event did a good job of keeping things moving right along, so nobody had to wait too long.
The little one in the photos is Murdoch, and this pup was a little reluctant to budge when his name was called, but with a little cajoling, the pooch was on the table in no time, and it was over before he knew it.
The attendants talked about how the device worked, answered any questions people had, and then handed them a little tote bag with a collar, a toy, and the pertinent information about their pet’s implant.
While the microchip will not allow you to find your dog like a lost iPhone, it will enable anyone with a reader to identify the animal as yours, speeding up the reunion process. The grain-of-rice sized RFID “microchip” is implanted under the skin and contains a unique identification number in the database.
