Business as usual at Commissioners Court where county contracts are up for renewal, and new changes from the legislature take effect.
Revisions for election precincts: in compliance with the recently updated Chapter 42 of the Texas Election Code that requires a county election precinct to contain 100 but not more than 5000 registered voters.
Contracts up for approval: shared juvenile detention services between Tom Green and Andrews, Crane, Navarro, Reeves, and Loving counties. Along with interlocal cooperation agreement for juvenile detention expansion project services between Reeves and Loving.
Easement for utilities: Frontier plans for more fiber optic cable along Knickerbocker Road.
Grant for better body armor: the grant award of $39,598 comes from the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice division for improved rifle-resistant body armor for the Sheriff’s department.
Last meeting, Sept. 30
Security improvements at Goodfellow: for improvements to Jacobson gate at GAFB, $3.6 million was awarded to Mirador Enterprises. The commissioners recognized the Civil Engineers and 17th Security Squadron, who thanked the county for their support. Named for Elizabeth Nicole Jacobson, AFC of the 17thSecurity Squadron stationed out of Goodfellow, who was killed in action in Iraq, Sept. 28, 2005.
Deductible increase for county employees: along with other contract renewals, commissioners approved renewing the current county employee health and dental plan. They were advised that there will be a 4.7-percent increase on health deductibles, and a 9.90-percent for dental.
Other motions include: further authorization for the county to purchase new vehicles to match demand. The motion was approved to allow the purchase of any vehicle within budget. Before they would have to wait for a formal bid process, which by that time would often leave the county without the item they bid on.
Changes to public notification: the calendar for 2026 was adopted with one minor change, pursuant to a new regulation that requires the Court notifies within 3 business days rather than 72 hours. Judge Carter noted that this will affect some of the times at which minutes and agendas are released. In most cases the notice will be given the Monday before holidays and observances.
Commissioners Court will meet on Oct. 7 at 8:30 a.m., in the Keyes Building, 113 W Beauregard, San Angelo, TX.
