OBITUARY

It is with deep sadness that the family of Tony Martinez announces his passing at the age of 68, following complications from cancer and diabetes. Surrounded by his devoted family and his best friend Frank in his final days, Tony left this world knowing he was deeply loved.

Born to Antonio and Luz Martinez, Tony was the eldest of six children and grew up to be a cornerstone of his family. In his later years, he lived with his mother, Luz, and his sister Patricia — a testament to the close bond he cherished with those nearest to him.

Tony had a gentle, generous spirit that extended far beyond his home. A lifelong animal lover, he cared especially for the stray cats in his neighborhood, feeding them daily and ensuring none went without. His quiet acts of kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He enjoyed the simple joys of life: camping beneath the open sky, spending time with the people he loved, and diving deep into video games — often staying up later than he’d admit. Family gatherings and meals with friends were among his greatest pleasures, especially the moments spent catching up with the adults and sharing in the excitement as nieces and nephews discussed their future.

During his final days, Tony and his best friend, Frank, spent hours reminiscing about past adventures the rest of us had long forgotten. They laughed over their days as a winning volleyball coaching duo, the hours spent playing basketball, and even the times they managed to make it through all 18 holes of golf. As for some of their more questionable decisions and adventures — those stories will remain safely between them.

Tony is survived by his beloved mother, Luz Valdez Martinez, his brother Robert Martinez and his wife Jackie, his sister Lolita De Los Santos and her husband Jaime, his brother David Martinez and his wife Carmen, his sister Patricia Martinez, his sister Carmen Friend and her husband Mark, his best friend Frank Coleman and his wife Janet, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Antonio Martinez Sr.

Tony Martinez was one of a kind — a loving son, a devoted brother, a true friend, and a quiet protector of the vulnerable. May he rest in peace.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, 28 February there will be a memorial service held at Harper Funeral Home at 2606 Southland Blvd, San Angelo, TX, 76904. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charitable organization of your choice in his memory.
