San Angelo needs The Concho Observer because we report on the stories others won’t.

Last week we reported on something that as late as last year would have been unthinkable. ASU Faculty, and staff were told what they cannot question whether there are only two sexes, male and female. They cannot discuss the idea of mixed sex persons, or gender identity beyond male and female, whether historically, culturally, philosophically, biologically or medically.
If they do so, faculty will be fired.
The Concho Observer broke that news. It then went viral across the state and nation. We did not attack the university, or express opinions about the development. We simply reported facts. We provided more detail about what was happening than any other news organization. We are still following that story as it develops.
Whether your agree or disagree with the university’s action, it is important that we know what is happening at the major public institutions in our community.
Without The Concho Observer this would have been swept under the rug.
A Good Publication May Not Be Enough
But The Concho Observer is at a crossroads.
I started this publication last December realizing that it was a big risk. But I believed it was worth the risk, and the investment. I believed San Angelo would value this type of publication. I still do.
People deserve to know what is happening in their local government and their community.
But the level of financial support I had hoped for has not developed.
Which brings us to where we are now with October just around the corner.
I am committed to see this experiment in local journalism through until December. What happens beyond that I do not know. Hopefully our prospects will improve and we will still be around to greet you in 2026.
I always said this was a community publication, and I will continue to keep the community informed about our plans for the future.
As always, thank you for reading and for your continued support.
