San Angelo, Texas, is a gem when it comes to local dining options. Locals know this by now. But with the prices of everything going up by the week, saving some cash is a priority for us all these days. I certainly don’t want to stop dining out altogether but pulling back some has been trending.

Dining Deals During the Week

When I do go out to grab some good food from around town, I find myself hunting for deals and specials. After some review, I took my findings and listed them here.

If you too are also looking for an affordable lunch deal, I got you covered. I have listed what I think are perhaps the best lunch (and weekend brunch) dining deals for the whole week.

This list is by no means exhaustive either. Many others certainly exist, and this does not even scratch the surface of my favorite happy hour deals either. But here’s a quick cheat-sheet to some of the best mom-and-pop spots, tried and tested many times by yours truly. Eat well and keep your pockets from going empty!

Tuesday-Thursday Helen’s Bistro

Postal Annex Ad

For a killer lunch that holds back on the debit card but not on flavor nor quality, swing by the downtown library to visit Helen’s Bistro and Bakery for an affordable lunch of scratch made sandwiches, soups, quiches, salads and fruit parfaits. Do not miss out on any of her amazing, to-die-for homemade cake slices or cookies! Open 9-4pm T-Th.

Tuesday Only: Senor Chang’s

All day long at Senor Chang’s you can hop on the ChowNow app and place an order for pick up or delivery to nab yourself what I think is the best deal in town on Tuesday (sorry taco lovers). Get a full-size order of hibachi chicken (regular or teriyaki) with their famous fried rice or steamed rice and a side of sauteed veggies for just $8. Orders are accepted from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday through the app only.

Monday-Saturday: Western Sky

Long known for offering up some of the best weekday lunches in town, this place is a default for a great, filling, affordable lunch every time. Monday through Saturday from 11a.m.to 3 p.m. you can fill your stomach and not empty your wallet with a daily lunch special for $13 with tea or coffee and tax included! Now that’s a deal! I happen to be very partial toward Thursday’s vegetable supreme steak plate and Saturday’s steak tips with potato and salad. But hey, you do you!

Monday-Friday: Masa Sushi

You can score an amazing dining deal here for lunch! From 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. you can score one of the bento box options for $12-16. All served with miso soup, steamed rice, side salad, 4 pieces of California roll, and 2 fried pork gyoza. Or consider the Sushi Bar lunch; offering any two ($13) or three ($16) sushi rolls of your choice with miso soup. You have 23 rolls to choose from at that! Need more options? They have more! Eight different hibachi lunch options await you as well, ranging from $11-$17. All served with onion-mushroom soup, mixed vegetables, and steamed rice.

Monday-Wednesday: Angelo Alehouse Pizzeria

Hit this place early in the week to save big and eat well! Oh, and outdoor rooftop dining as well! Oh, and the 30 self-tap beer and wine pours, yep, they got that too. Said to be arguably the best pizza in town, you can eat all your pizza dough and keep ‘the other dough’ in your pockets. Mondays are ASU days. Students/staff can get a slice of cheese, peperoni or margherita pizza and a drink for $10. Tuesday is family day which gets you 2 pies, cheese sticks or focaccia and two decadent cannoli’s for just $33. Wednesdays are for all the local heroes! Take a solid 20 percent off your ticket (food only) if you are a front-line healthcare worker, military member, police officer, or firefighter serving our great city.

Monday-Friday: Angry Cactus

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. you can land yourself an ideal business lunch special right downtown and get back to the office in no time while saving some serious cash. You have seven entrees and eight sides to pick from. One of each for just $10 bucks! The blackened catfish and sweet potato mash is my favorite, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the options offered.

Saturday and Sunday: Di Roma Restaurant

Brunch here is all-you-can-eat offered from 8 a.m.to 11 a.m. for just $13 plus coffee. It offers a wide range of classics and staples on every breakfast table. Go up as many times as you want and get your fill while saving some serious cash. The restaurant’s Facebook page has tons of great photos of the spread they offer so go check that out to what awaits you.

Saturday and Sunday: Zero One Taproom

Brunch at a taproom? You betcha! Available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends. You can do as I do on those nice Sunny days and sit in the large open-back patio space. Make it feel like a weekend right!? Although it’s a smaller menu of just twelve items, two of which are appetizers, what they do offer is always solid and very affordable. Ranging from $9 for the Toast To The South (avocado toast with pulled pork, fried egg, and BBQ sauce), to the $18 chicken fried steak and eggs with roasted potatoes and toast. I must admit that I am a sucker for the PB & J French toast as no one else does it quite like this. A kid’s menu is available as well with three options to choose from.
